PLAY CHESS IN THE NORTH

Mauritian Chess aficionados have a new place to play chess in the North of the island  thanks to the endeavour of Jeroen Koster ,south african born but naturalised mauritian chess player, who has arranged to have chess playing sessions every wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Russian Hut restaurant, Pointe aux Canonniers. Local players are expected to do battle with some expat russian chess players living on the island. The chess meetings are expected to start as from next wednesday 26 March, we will keep you updated on this new Russian opening gambit !!

D CHINASAMY WINS REPUBLIC CUP 2014

Devarajan Chinasamy current chess champion of Mauritius has confirmed his superiority against his closest rivals Fide Master Roy Phillips and Candidate Master Patrick Li Ying by defeating both of them in the 2014 Republic Cup tournament . He beat Li Ying in an endgame in the third round and top seed Roy Phillips in the fourth round on the white side of an exciting French Defense variation.Patrick Marie came fourth after losing against the first two players.Unrated Christopher Chan was the surprise of the tournament coming fifth ahead of rated players Koster,Lau and Goorsahye. There was a good crop of juniors and Rayen Sawmynaden posted the best result with 3.5 points to claim eighth place.

MASTERS 2014 POSTPONED TO MAY

Due to the unavailability of several qualified players during the month of April 2014 the MCF has decided to postpone the start of the tournament to 17 May 2014 the 10 selected players namely R Phillips, D Chinasamy, P Li Ying, P Marie, O Philippe, J Koster, A Goorsahye, A Jotee, R Sawmynaden , G Kibria are requested to confirm their participation at latest 30 th April  2014. The details of the tournament can be found on the calendar page of the web site. Those who fail to confirm their participation on the deadline date  will default their places to the 2 reserves namely 1. P Lau and 2.

RATING LIST UPDATE

After the Republic Cup 2014 tournament finished ,there is a staus-quo in the top three places of the national rating list, with Roy Phillips holding to his first place at 2128  despite shedding 6 points, the winner Deevarajan Chinasamy was the big gainer with a whopping 18 points gain to 2088. Patrick Li Ying was stuck in third place at 2068 with a 2 points loss. They are the only players above 2000 rating.
