2nd MASTERS 2017 QUALIFIER-ROY PHILLIPS IN THE LEAD BUT MASTERS QUALIFYING SPOTS STILL UP FOR GRABS

After 4 rounds of the 2nd Masters 2017 Qualifier have been played, top-seed Roy Phillips is in the lead on 4 points ,the only player to have a perfect score but as he is already seeded for the Masters 2017 ,interest has shifted to the last 3 qualifying spots on offer. Ronald Raimbert is making a sensational come-back as he is in second place and holds the first qualifying spot on 3.5 points after he outplayed C.M. Deevarajan Chinasamy in the endgame from a Spanish opening.

RONALD RAIMBERT STUNS ROY PHILLIPS AND TAKES THE LEAD AFTER 5 ROUNDS OF THE 2ND MASTERS QUALIFIER TOURNAMENT

In the penultimate round of the 2nd Masters Qualifier tournament we expected fireworks as the battle hottens for the last 3 Masters 2017 qualifying spots ,on the top board Ronald Raimbert(2020) the 2000 Masters champion was white against FIDE Master Roy Phillips(2148), a five times winner of the Masters tournament. Ronald opened with the king pawn and Roy replied with his trade-mark Hippopotamus defense which consist of a double fianchetto and development of the black knights on e7 and d7. Ronald put pressure from the early stages on Roy's king-side and won a pawn,albeit a double H pawn.
