DUSSOYE ,KOSTER and MARIE take the last 3 qualifying places of the MASTERS 2015

The 2nd Masters Qualifiers tournament just ended and Dussoye(1798),Koster(1808) and Marie (1920)  just edged it ahead  of a pack of top juniors. The tournament was dominated by Nuvin Dussoye who scored 5.5 points ahead of Jeroen Koster 5 pts and the recent Republic Cup winner Patrick Marie on 4.5 pts. The last round had only 1 game that had a bearing on the qualifying places ,namely the Rayen Sawmynaden-Patrick Marie match, the experienced Marie made no mistake to win the tie and claim the third qualifying place.

17th REUNION ISLAND INTERNATIONAL OPEN 10-17 OCT 2015

The Ligue Reunion Echecs and the Echiquier du Nord chess club  invites all local players to their 17th International Open to be held in Bellepierre ( ST DENIS), Reunion island  from 10th to 17 th October 2015. It is a 9 rounds swiss system  FIDE rated  ,time control 90 minutes per player to finish the game with a 30 seconds increment per move as  from move 1. Entry Fee 60 Euros for adults /30 Euros for under 20 players.

ROY PHILLIPS PLACED 9th at BLANTYRE 4.3 CHESS ZONAL

The 4.3 Chess zonal held at the Shire Highlands hotel in Blantyre (Malawi) from 18th to 25th April 2015 saw a small field of 24 players in the Open section competing for a place in the 2015 FIDE World Cup. Despite the small field from only 7 (Malawi,Mauritius, Zambia,Zimbabwe,Botswana, Angola  and Mozambique) out of the 12 countries that comprise the sub-saharan zone and the absence of the south african players due to their suspension by FIDE for being in arrears in FIDE dues, the field was quite strong with 3  I.M (Jere,Makoto and Soares ) and  7 F.M.

CHESS AT COCO TOWN (SHOPRITE MALL)

The new children playground at Cocotown (Shoprite Mall) Trianon invited the MCF to visit its premises last saturday 12th September 2015 in a bid to showcase chess to the public. The owners want to involve some federations such as Chess and karate in their upcoming activities during the forthcoming december school holidays. If there is sufficient interest from the parents to register their kids for the chess courses, the MCF will send local FIDE titled trainers to teach the game to the youngsters.

SUMMER OPEN 2015 REGISTRATION OPEN

The Mauritius Chess Federation is launching  the Summer OPEN 2015 a 6 rounds Swiss system

Venue- Eddie Norton Hall ,Rose-Hill

Time Control-60 Minutes per player

Tie Break- M-Bucholz then Bucholz and Progressive score in that order

Dates- Saturday 7, 14 November 2015, Sundays 8,15 November 2015

Start Rounds- Saturday 16.00 to 18.00 hrs Sundays 9.30-11.30 and 12.00-14.00 hrs

Entry Fee-Rs 100 , Players are expected to hold an annual MCF licence ,those who are not licensed can purchase a licence at the venue ( Rs 200- Adult , Rs 100- Junior)

LADIES OPEN 2015- REGISTRATION OPEN

The LADIES OPEN 2015 is a tournament open to all female chess players of mauritian nationality. The winner will be selected as the "Official Player" in the Women's section of the forthcoming 4.3  zonal tournament to be held in Mauritius from 23 April to 2 May 2015 in a beach resort hotel. She will be freely accomodated on full board basis for 10 days (9 nights)  on room sharing basis with another female participant from another country of the zone. She will only pay the  70 Euros FIDE fee as the zonal  tournament entry fee of EUR 100- will be waived by the MCF.

SUMMER OPEN 2015-D CHINASAMY LEADS AFTER 3 ROUNDS

The Summer Open 2015 has attracted a small field of 15 players but there were some quality players involved from the Mauritius olympiad squad such as  Devarajan Chinasamy, Patrick Marie, Antoine Goorsahye as well as some top juniors and young players like the Sawmynaden brothers Vicken,Rayen and Righen as well as the promising Hoolan Naipal,Nadarajen Vencatasawmy and Vincent de Robillard.After 3 rounds the 2012 Masters champion Deevrajan Chinasamy(2096) has taken the sole lead after beating his closest rated competitor Patrick Marie (1920) in their third round encounter.

D CHINASAMY WINS THE SUMMER OPEN 2015

Top seed Deevarajan Chinasamy has easily won the SUMMER OPEN 2015 with the perfect score of 6 pts out of 6 games. He defeated Vicken Sawmynaden in the last round to clinch another title in his trophy-ladened career. In second place on 4.5 pts we find the much improved Ashwin JOTEE (a former junior champion) who has fully  benefited from his recent trip in Reunion Island where he finished 16th with a  creditable score of 5.5 pts. Ashwin only loss was against the winner and  he has added some bite to his generally solid play.
