HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016

The coming New Year 2016 promise to be an eventful one for the MCF as on top of the usual local activities, the focus will be on two big international events namely the holding of the zonal 4.3 championships in Mauritius from 23 April to 2 May and the Baku Chess Olympiad 17-30 September in Azerbaijan.

INVITATION TO THE MASTERS 2016 (UPDATED)

The ten qualified players are invited to confirm their participation to the Masters 2016 by  latest 14 Feb 2016 (In case the MCF receives no confirmation by deadline date the qualified player will forfeit his place and the MCF reserves the right to replace him by issuing wild cards to promising young players)

INVITATION TO THE ZONAL 4.3 CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016 (UPDATED)

The Mauritius Chess Federation has the honour to invite the National Chess federations of the  following countries ,namely Angola,Botswana,Comoros Islands,Democratic Republic of Congo,Lesotho,Madagascar,Malawi,Mozambique,Namibia,South Africa,Swaziland,Zambia and Zimbabwe to the FIDE Zonal 4.3 Individual Chess Championships to be held in Mauritius from 23rd April to 2nd May 2016.

MASTERS 2016-R PHILLIPS & P LI YING STILL IN THE LEAD

The Masters 2016 has reached its two third mark after 3 more rounds were played this week-end and the two leaders FM Roy Phillips and CM Patrick Li Ying are neck and neck in the lead with 6 points each ,with Phillips leading on tie-break after he beat another top contender for the title CM Deevarajan Chinasamy in the 5th round.

MASTERS 2016-PATRICK LI YING SOLE LEADER AFTER 8 ROUNDS

The Masters 2016 tournament resumed this week-end as rounds 7 and 8 were played , there was no player with a perfect score after the clash between the two leaders FM Roy Phillips(2138) and CM Patrick Li Ying (2079) in the seventh round produced no winners. This crucial encounter was a cagey affair as R Phillips opened with his customary 1.g3 Benko's opening and the game proceeded along closed lines. Phillips was trying to grab space on the king side while Li Ying countered on the queenside, after 17 moves Phillips played the weak 17.

PATRICK LI YING WINS THE MASTERS 2016 AND ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM LOCAL CHESS SCENE

The Masters 2016 ended in dramatic fashion this saturday as the title was only won with the last move of the round involving the leader Patrick Li Ying and Jeroen Koster.At the start of the round only 2 players were in the running for the national chess title of Mauritius P Li Ying (Montreal Knights chess club) on 7.5 pts and Roy Phillips( B4 chess club) on 7 pts, the latter opened up with his usual Benko opening against Patrick Marie and put pressure on his opponent queenside through the semi-open c file and the h1-a8 diagonal.

RIU RESORT (MAURITIUS) READY TO HOST THE 4.3 CHESS ZONAL 2016

The sprawling RIU Resort (MAURITIUS) in le Morne peninsula, which comprise of 3 sister hotels ( RIU Le Morne,RIU Creole and RIU Coral) is ready to host the Africa Zone 4.3 Individual Chess Championships 2016.The President of the MCF Mr Hurrynarain Bhowany and Vice-President Patrick Li Ying made a last site visit to the hotel grounds this week-end and left satisfied that the beach resort venue will be one of the best that has ever hosted an african zonal chess tournament.
