The Africa Zone 4.3 Individual Chess Championships 2016 is ready to start with the arrival of the foreign players from South Africa, Angola and Botswana.

4.3 ZONAL 2016-ROUND ONE

We have the first pictures of Round One of the 4.3 Zone Individual Championships held at RIU Le Morne resort (23 Apr-2 May 2016)

ZONAL 4.3 2016-SOUTH AFRICANS LEAD BOTH SECTIONS AFTER 6 ROUNDS

After six rounds of the Africa Zone 4.3 Individual Chess Championships 2016 have been played in the exotic location of the RIU Le Morne resort Mauritius, the South African players are in the lead in both sections.

PENULTIMATE ROUND STARTS AT THE KULINARIUM

The 8th Round of the African Zone 4.3 Individual Chess Championships has begun and  with only half a point separating the first 7 players anything could happen. The last Angolan derby between Domingos and Alberto , the leader South African Ryan Van Rensburg against Young Milanto Ralison and the match of current national champions of Angola and Botswana  between David Silva and Barileng Gaelafshwe will prove decisive for the top places.

RYAN VAN RENSBURG AND JESSE FEBRUARY CROWNED AS 2016 AFRICA ZONE 4.3 CHAMPIONS

The curtain has fallen on the Africa Zone 4.3 Individual Chess Championships and after 9 hard fought rounds the South Africans Ryan Van Rensburg in the Open category and Jesse February in the Women category were crowned as the 2016 champions.On top of earning the International Master title Ryan and Jesse received cash prizes of USD 1,000- and USD 750- respectively, they also received the  winners trophies from local sponsor "The Mauritius Commercial Bank" and some souvenir  goodies from the bank.

Dates- 25,26 June and 2,3,9,10 July 2016

Start Time - Saturdays 14.30 hrs Sundays- 9.00 hrs

Rounds- 6 Rds Swiss System

Time Control-90 Minutes per player with 30 seconds increment as from Move 1

Tie-Break- In that order 1.Sonneborn-Berger 2. Progressive Score 3. Direct Encounter

Arbiter- H Bhowany/ J Callychurn

Entry fee- Free but players must hold a MCF licence Rs 200- per adult and Rs 100- for Junior (Under 18)-Players may buy licence at the Venue

REPUBLIC CUP 2016 ROUND 1

The Republic Cup 2016 , a Masters 2017 Qualifier event, has attracted an interesting field of 18 players comprising of our two freshly FIDE rated female players Aamirah Beekhy and Meritza Acham both on 1397 Elo , 2 foreign players from Tunisia and Lesotho and strong local players such as D Chinasamy, Hoolan Naipal, Antoine Goorsahye, Ashwin Jotee, Christophe Chan,Nuvin Dussoye and the top young players Vicken and Righen Saymynaden, Adrien Fine and Nadarajen Venkatasawmy.

CHINASAMY AND NAIPAL NECK AND NECK AT THE REPUBLIC CUP 2016

After 4 rounds have been played at the Republic Cup 2016  tournament, two players have drawn clear of the field and without surprise they are Deevarajan Chinasamy and Hoolan Naipal the two top mauritian seeds of the tournament. They are both on 4 points and will meet for a decisive show-down in the 5th round. Chinasamy dispatched Nuvin Dussoye after the latter blundered an exchange whereas Hoolan took advantage of some opening inaccuracy  by Ashwin Jotee in the Caro-Kan  to put his opponent under pressure and bring home the point.

D CHINASAMY WINS THE REPUBLIC CUP 2016 ON TIE-BREAK

Deevarajan Chinasamy edged Hoolan Naipal and Antoine Goorsahye on tie-break to win the Republic Cup 2016 after the three players finished the six rounds on 5 points. The Montreal Knights club representative took over from  his club mate Patrick Marie who won the 2015 edition and indeed it was three in a row for the Coromandel Chess club as the 2014 title  was also  won by Chinasamy
